Publication Date: Tuesday, April 01, 2008 In order to ensure that each Swedish registered horse can retain a unique identity, SWANA has adopted some important new rules for the naming of SWB horses. These rules are in place effective immediately for any new registration, regardless of the horse’s age or gender. Over the next few months, SWANA will also be retroactively re-issuing names for previously registered horses, except for those who may already meet the new criteria.1. No abbreviations of any type will be allowed, this includes abbreviations for farm names or organizations. As an example, all L.A. Baltic horses will be renamed to Los_Alamos_Dressage_Baltic etc. 2. Blank spaces are no longer permissible; names must now include the underscore symbol as a word separator, so that "Shadow Dancer", for example, becomes "Shadow_Dancer". As an option, you may choose to spell out “underscore” instead of using the symbol, as in "ShadowUnderscoreDancer." 3. All names must begin with the first two letters of the sire’s name, end with the last two letters of the dam’s name, and include the middle letter of the breeder’s middle name, except in cases where this violates the “i before e except after c” rule, in which case you may swap the order of the aforementioned rule. If your middle name has an even number of letters, or if you do not have one at all, please contact SWANA to obtain an appropriate middle name. 4. The state flower of the breeder’s home state will be appended at the end of the horse’s name. If your home state does not have an official state flower, you will need to move to one that does before registering your horse. Canadians have the option of using “Maple_Leaf ” or “MapleUnderscoreLeaf” if their province does not have an official flower. 5. In order to preserve lyrical integrity, horses in the desert will have no name. 6. Lastly, to guarantee that no duplicate names can exist, the cube root of the breeder’s zip code will be added to the square of the horse’s height at the time of registration, and this will be used as the prefix for the horse’s name. We are actively working on a new mathematical theorem that will allow us to take the cube root of Canadian postal codes. In the meantime, Canadians can submit the last five digits of their phone numbers. Please note that “April_Fool’s” or “AprilUnderscoreFool’s” are not acceptable names.
